When it comes to your child's education and safety, you want highly qualified, well-trained instructors. We have taken the time to carefully select each of our instructors so you can be confident that you have the best candidate coming to your home. All Mermaid Swim School instructors are highly accomplished, having either completed or are working on related college degrees and several years of teaching experience. Many have also swam or coached competitively, and are very involved in their communities.

Jakki Wagoner Jaclyn Wagoner

Jakki started swimming before she could walk. Growing up she was on the swim/dive team. In high school and college she was a lifeguard manager and swim instructor. She has certifications in First Aid and CPR and has trained with the red-cross for her Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certificate. In 2016, she lived in Saint Kitts and Nevis and started her own swim program, teaching children/adults how to swim. Outside of teaching, she loves water sports and on windy days spends her spare time kite boarding.

Charlotte Mansfield

Charlotte was born and raised in La Crosse, WI. She always loved the water and grew up fishing and searching for new swimming holes. She became lifeguard certified at the age of 16 and began teaching swimming lessons shortly thereafter. After high school she moved to Florida to attend Eckerd College where she double majored in Biology and Spanish. Over the years she worked for various organizations teaching swimming lessons, and also taught private lessons for high profile families in Los Angeles. Inspired by this experience she founded Mermaid Swim School in 2008, and it has been thriving ever since. She also works as a marine biologist in commercial fisheries and is working on her Master’s in Environmental Science at Florida Gulf Coast University. As her creative outlet, Charlotte founded a sister company, Floridita Swimwear, which makes hand-made, luxury bathing suits. She currently resides in Siesta Key and her hobbies include swimming, SCUBA diving, surfing and sailing.

Sebastian Marin

Sebastian was born in Medellin, Colombia and moved with his family to Florida as a young child. Both Sebastian's father and grandfather played professional soccer in Colombia, and hence, Sebastian grew up playing soccer.  He attended high school at Cardinal Mooney in Sarasota, where he played varsity soccer and football. After high school, Sebastian left Sarasota tostudy international business and play soccer at Lenore Ryan College in Hickory, North Carolina.  He eventually made his way back to Sarasota and began using his leadership skills to manage a local seafood restaurant. It was during this time that he met and married his now wife, Charlotte, the owner of Mermaid Swim School! He also currently manages Big Water Fish Market, located on Siesta Key, but the seasonality of the restaurant business allows him to work with his wife during the swim season. Sebastian has also coached the varsity soccer team of his alma mater, Cardinal Mooney, since 2007. During his free time, Sebastian enjoys going to the beach, snorkeling, traveling, and camping in Myakka!
